With all that you know and have learned so far, do you think that phishing will ever be completely eliminated as a web-based vulnerability? Why/Why not?
With
the recent change in the political climate, I can imagine a
theoretical scenario where phishing could be eliminated. In
the past, our current President has voiced concerns about
the openness
of the internet,
and the dangers therein. And we have seen examples of similar
implementations, with the U.K.’s great
porn filter.
I can wholeheartedly imagine a scenario where external and
unregistered IP addresses are blocked from American Cyberspace,
effectively ending anonymity. If there are no unknown agents on
the internet, and every click is measured, it makes it
increasingly difficult to phish for information, and even more
difficult to use that information if it were attained. Heck, I
can’t even use my credit card or log into facebook in another state
without getting my accounts shut down. With a little more
enforcement, welcome or otherwise, I have blind optimistic faith that
this crisis could be resolved.
